This Saturday, January 27, is Local Quilt Shop Day. To celebrate, Quilting with Margaret’s Studio Shop will be having the final day of it’s Big January Sale. About half the fabric in the shop will be on sale 25% off. Now’s the time to get those quilt backings! There will be refreshments and a door prize drawing. Stop in and show your support for local quilt shops!

Also on Saturday, you can check out all of the new fabrics that have been arriving monthly. New in the shop are lots of Tula Pink’s Besties collection, some of her tiny beasts and large and small dots. Another Freespirit fabric just in is a Kaffe Fassett extra-wide backing fabric “Onion Rings,” black swirls on a white background.

Just starting to come in are fabrics from the Seattle based fabric company Clothworks. “Cheers!” is a fun wine themed fabric. Also recently in is several bolts of the Clothworks line, “Mystical Sunshine” which may be great to make a quilt to celebrate the Total Solar Eclipse in April. In a couple of months I will be getting the entire “Alcohol Inks” line which are similar to batiks, but are digitally printed. I am excited about caring these digitally printed fabrics from the west coast company Clothworks.

Another “new to the shop” fabric company, Cloud 9, features 100% organic cotton fabrics. Their line “Dog Days of Summer” just came in this month. It would make a fabulous baby or kids quilt with funny dogs sunning themselves on the beach.

So stop by 100 Boxart St., Studio 265 Saturday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., support your local quilt shop, buy some fabric and help Quilting with Margaret make room for more new fabrics coming in soon. See you Saturday!

More Holiday Hours Added

Thanks to everyone who visited me at Studio #265, 100 Boxart St. over the past month. Since so many have asked, I will be open again this Saturday, Dec. 9 from 11 - 3 p.m.

I want to take a moment to say “Thank You!” to everyone who stopped by my new studio at 100 Boxart St. (in Charlotte) over the past month. It was great to see everyone and show you my new space. The holidays have been busy this year at Quilting with Margaret and the Boxart Building. We all appreciate you shopping local.

And since I have had several people ask if I had any more hours planned, I decided to open for Second Saturday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. I will also be in the studio at various times over the next couple of weeks, so give me a call (831-2566) if you would like to stop by after this Saturday. I will be happy to be open by appointment.

I still have potholders, oven mitts, coaster sets, and a few holiday runners left. Also, I just got some “Country Cardinals” fabric in, which is the fabric I used to make the runner pictured above. I love the cardinals and snowy pine trees in this fabric. It would make a wonderful holiday runner, but you could leave it out all winter.

And as a gift to everyone who buys a yard of one of these fabrics, I will give you a FREE Easy Tablerunner & Placemat pattern to make this fun tablerunner from the border stripe fabric (or any other border stripe fabric). There’s still time to make a few of these quick runners as gifts.

But if you missed this first annual event, many of the BoxArtists will also be open on First Saturday, December 2, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. So there is still time to visit Rochester’s latest building of artist studios before the holidays.

November 18 & 19, 11am - 3 pm, one of Rochester’s newest art colonies will be having our first annual “Holiday Open House.” There will be food, guest artists, live music and lots of holiday gifts.

November 18 & 19, 11am - 3 pm, one of Rochester’s newest art colonies will be having our first annual “Holiday Open House.” There will be food, guest artists, live music and lots of holiday gifts. Come see all of the new studio spaces, many who have recently opened.

We are located at 100 Boxart St. in Charlotte. Just turn off Lake Ave. at the light at Boxart St. and go to the bottom of the hill. At the stop sign, drive straight into the parking lot. There is lots of parking, especially on the weekends when other businesses in the building are closed.

I will be open both days of the weekend, with guest artist Monica Simpson who has created gorgeous string lights and night lights from empty beer cans. These lights are absolutely gorgeous and not just for holiday decorating. They would make a nice accent on you front porch, deck or backyard patio.

I have lots of new potholders, the perfect gift for everyone. Who doesn’t need a new potholder to replace the dirty burned ones? And new this year are artist potholders: Frida, Van Gogh, Monet and Da Vinci. Also, lots of different RBG designs, pot leaves and gummy bears. Of course, I still have the popular pinup oven mitts. And lots of table runners, lap quilts and quilted holiday stockings.

If you are making your own holiday gifts this year, I just got in tons of new fabrics including 28 bolts of Tula Pinks’ Besties, Pom Pom and Tiny Dots lines. And Clothworks line Cheers! which is wine glasses, wine bottles, wine drops, grapes and corks. If you haven’t checked out my fabrics lately, I have about twice as much as I had at the Hungerford. Also, I have what I call D.I.Y. kits to make cork purses, embellished tea towels, wine gift bags, oilcloth tote bags and placemats.

So if you are out and about this weekend, stop by 100 Boxart St. and visit all of the new artists studios. Shop locally handmade this year! Keep art alive in Rochester.
