Meet Margaret Spevak
Margaret Spevak has been teaching a wide range of quilting classes since 1992 throughout the Rochester area at local quilt shops, quilt clubs and continuing education programs. She now works exclusively from her studio, “Quilting with Margaret,” at 100 Boxart St., Studio 265 in Rochester, NY.
As one of the first instructors in the area to offer day/midnight quilting retreats at local quilt shops, Margaret now offers maker’s workshops at the studio. Since 2006, she has been hosting luxury get-away weekends in Western New York, with attendees from as far away as Ohio, Massachusetts, Colorado and California. The Get-Away Weekend has recently sold out and takes place at The Mansion on Keuka Lake in the western NY Finger Lakes region.
Margaret was a judge for the Iron Quilter III competition at the 2015 Genesee Valley QuiltFest at Rochester Institute of Technology. She had a solo quilt show at the Little Cafe Gallery in the fall of 2018. Since 2019, Margaret has participated in the January Self-Portrait Show at Studio 402 in the Anderson Arts Building in downtown Rochester. She often enters small quilts in the 6x6 Exhibit at Rochester Contemporary Arts.
With a home economics education degree from Ohio University, Margaret previously taught high school home economics. A member of various area quilt clubs including the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild, she's married and lives in Rochester with her writer husband, Jeff.
